Davidson County Community College kicked off the new year by welcoming its new college president, Dr. Darrin Hartness, former superintendent of Davie County Schools. An Oath of Office ceremony was held on the Davidson Campus, marking the first official day for Hartness. Invited guests included members of the DCCC Board of Trustees and Foundation Executive Committee, as well as administrative leadership from the college.

Hartness was joined by his wife, Lisa, and youngest daughter, Molly, during the oath conducted by Judge Jimmy L. Myers, district court judge for Davidson and Davie counties. Hartness pledged to provide leadership to the college, serve its students with dedication and enthusiasm, and support the communities of Davidson and Davie counties.

“We are looking forward to Dr. Hartness building upon the momentum, stature and reputation that we have here at DCCC,” Board of Trustees Chair Ken White said. “Dr. Hartness has demonstrated great leadership ability and a commitment to education in his many years of service in North Carolina education.”

Hartness spoke of his appreciation for the confidence shown in him by the Board of Trustees and his desire to work collectively with the board, faculty and staff to achieve the mission and vision of the college.

“DCCC is a college where individuals of all backgrounds can walk through the doors and be met with the knowledge, skills, and support needed to achieve success. The role we play not only impacts the lives of our students but the quality of our communities,” President Darrin Hartness said. “It is an honor and privilege to be here and I look forward to working with everyone to make this the best community college in the nation.”

Hartness is the fourth president in the 55-year history of the college.
