Learning Commons FAQs
Where is the Learning Commons?
Does the Learning Commons provide one-on-one tutoring for everyone?
Yes! The Learning Commons provides tutoring in the following ways:
- Open Lab: Open Lab allows you to drop in during operational hours and get help with your studies. Coaches are available to help answer your questions and provide examples. For extra assistance, try coming in the afternoons when traffic is light.
- Appointment-based Tutoring: Our new Upswing online scheduling tool allows you to schedule tutoring appointments for reading, writing, study skills, accounting and Spanish.
- Online Tutoring: We provide around the clock support for students through Upswing. Upswing allows DCCC students to schedule online appointments with LC tutors and with Upswing tutors after hours. This service is free to you and is recommended for distance students, students with night classes and others who simply need quality after-hours support.
What in the world is “Upswing”?
Upswing is a scheduler for both online and one-on-one tutoring appointments. Upswing allows you to meet DCCC coaches and make appointments with them. If our coaches don’t have a time slot you need, you can make an online appointment with an Upswing coach instead! Upswing coaches are available in a variety of subjects. You can check their ratings and their specialties to find the right tutor for your needs. All of these services are 100% free to you as a DCCC student.
How do I access Upswing so I can schedule a tutoring session?
It’s simple. Upswing can be accessed from the Tutoring Web page, through StormTrac or directly by going to davidsonccc.upswing.io. Once you’re in Upswing, simply log in with your Stormtrac username and password. From there, select your preferred subject, tutor and time. It’s that easy!
